CD Cover Ideas

A rough Photoshop image for our front cover for our CD/DVD digipak. It's very important that the name is in the style which goes with the rest of Kasabians brand and fits in with older work. We decided to have 'Fire' in a different font because its quite a western styled video so we felt we have to portray that in the front cover. The horse and cowboy are symbolic of western times. They have action codes of good and heroism for old USA. Then we have the gun aim, this is to give an insite into the feel of the video because it makes the viewer ask questions as to why its like that and when it is going to happen and who is holding the gun. By making our target audience ask so many questions we are inticing them into buying it.
A rough Photoshop idea for the back cover of our single CD/Digipak. Includes a iconography of the western genre; a gun, drugs, whiskey and cards. We decided it was widely important to feature props from our music video because they each have their own action code. The gun is very symbolic of danger and action. This also gives an edge of excitement and fear into why it is on the table. The cards are their for the reason of gambling which could also be seen as dangerous and sometimes winning but other times losing. The final two things are Whiskey and Cocaine. The whiskey is about calmness and taking off the edge from the gun and the cocaine but we also felt it was important to show another side to the cowboy. The cocaine is the only thing that may have to change. This is because the standards agency might not allow drugs advertised by such an influential band but also because in no way would the record label want cocaine linked with the band.
This idea looks really good with the wooden background. It feels westerny and portrays parts of a cowboy that others ignore. It also works really well using action codes to give a deeper meaning . The front cover and back cover go really well together aswell because as you can see it the front is the traditional look of what people see when they think of cowboys. Then behind all this is the back cover which shows the shadowy past aswell.

Promotional Images - Florence and the Machine

This image is the image I have used on my live DVD cover. I also chose it as a promotional image as it shows that the band are fun and lively which relates to the style of Florence's music. The focal point of the image is at the center because the artists are there and this attracts attention to the image.
I chose this image of the band for a promotional photo because it is a natural image of them which makes them look normal and everyday-like. This makes you think that you can relate to them as they are normal human beings and that their music will be something that you would enjoy.

Live DVD Cover - Florence and the Machine

I put an image of the artists on the front of the cover so as it made it more personal and you felt you could relate to them. The image is of a girl with two boys standing on her hands, she is in the middle because she is lead singer of the band. The artist name is in a handwritten font because it makes it more personal as it looks like the artists signed it themselves. The name is at the top as it is an important part of a cover because it displays the main information. The background image is of a tree which represents nature and peace, this fits in with the style of Florence's music and singing style. On the back cover I have followed on with the same font from the front for continuity, it is positioned in the middle of the cover so your attention is drawn to it. I have put a grey band across the bottom of it so that the barcode and copyright information can be seen properly.

Lip Synch Video - Florence and the Machine

We chose 'You've Got The Love' for our video because out of the choices we were given we liked this song the best. We are also all fans of Florence and like her music so we knew we would enjoy filming it. I also thought that it would be an easy video to create a lip-synching music video to as it is a very imaginative song.
We found it easy to lip synch to this song because we already knew the words and we had listened to the song many times before. The people we chose to lip-synch and dance in the video were more confident with being infront of a camera so they found it much easier than some of the other people in the group.
I think that our shots reflected real life music videos because we used a lot of long shots to set the scene and so that you could see all the actors in the shot. We also used mid shots so that you could focus on one person but also be able to follow them dancing and moving around more easier.
We used low camera angles to make the people seem more important and bigger and make them stand out, this is similiar to other music videos. We also used eye-line angles so that the person could look straight into the camera and make it more personal.
I think our sequence was typical of music videos because we used different shots and were able to synchronise the lip synching with the clips easily to allow it to all blend together and give it continuity.
Next time I think that we should plan our video and scenes more by making a story board, as this time we basically just went out and filmed it. I would also add more colour, transitions and movement if we did it again as I don't think it is as interesting as it should be. Also I would get more people to be in the video so the shots don't seem as empty and we could create the image of an audience or a big crowd of people, this would emphasise the love in the video.
